A minute of your time, hope for a lifetime

Greetings!

Thanks to our donors' generous support, the Work An Hour (WAH) campaign has raised about $78,000 so far. While this is very encouraging, we are in our last week of the campaign, and well short of the $248,000 budget needed for this year's WAH supported projects.

Please take a minute to donate an hour's worth of your income to this deserving cause. This is an opportunity for those of us privileged, to make a positive impact in the life of someone less privileged

Over 4,400 students across India are waiting for your support.

Thank you.

Warm Regards
Asha for Education

The silence of good men is more dangerous than the brutality of bad men.
- Martin Luther King

Alo and Akanksha, children of sex workers, never imagined that they would complete their secondary education, go on to college and accepted in mainstream society. Nishitha, an organization in West Bengal made this possible. Education has radically altered their lives and it can give thousands of children in a similar situation a hope (ASHA) to stand on their own feet. These girls can help shape the future of our society and its more important than ever to see that they are educated.Aadarana, Nishtha, Mahila Vvikas and ABWU are showcased in Work an Hour 2011 that protect and educate girls in India.

Vareching comes from a physically abusive home, plagued with mental illness and extreme poverty. Against all these odds, he is studying at the TEP School - along with 500 other children - in a remote and impoverished region of Manipur. The well being of the people from remote areas is vital for functioning and well being of the society as a whole. Work an Hour 2011 showcases 5 projects (BTS, FORWORD, REWARD, TEP, SGVS) that bringing opportunities to remote India by providing quality education.

Happy Teachers' Day
WAHbanner2011
Dear Asha Patron,

Those who educate children well are more to be honored than parents, for these only gave life, those the art of living well. - Aristotle

Ever had a teacher who changed your life? Someone you looked up to? Someone you thank? Teachers spend great amounts of time and effort in us, in making us who we are today, and in helping us attain education, a career, and independence. They help us grow as moral individuals and teach us to share our knowledge with those less fortunate.  Work An Hour 2011 honors these teachers and role models today, as it showcases 20 projects that are working to bring education to children in rural areas, enslaved by poverty, disability, and differences. On this Teachers' Day, September 5, 2011, YOU can thank back your teachers by donating to the 20 Projects and 4415 Students that are part of WAH.

So do you have your role model? Is there someone you want to thank today? Donate to Work an Hour and send your teachers and role models this email to show them your appreciation for their unconditional contributions.

Sincerely,

Asha for Education

Dear Asha Patron,

Millions of children in India sleep on the dusty streets, cry from hunger, and live a life we would not dare to live. But there is hope (Asha) if the children can break this vicious cycle with literacy. They can dream for a better life and we can try to ensure that by one hour of our salary or one hour of time. Many dedicated project partners of Asha are changing lives in grass root level every day and they deserve this one hour from all of us. There are 150 million children in need of education, but we can start this mammoth task with 4500 students and 20 projects in all corners of India.
With Warm Regards,
Asha for Education

     Care for the Disabled
Dear Asha Patron,

We don't often reflect about the numerous disabled children in India who live in extreme poverty. It's depressing to think about perhaps the most underprivileged in society - children without means or health. The following organizations which Work An Hour supports, bring hope to such children every day. Please read on!

Astha1
Differently abled children like Sonia who live in the poverty stricken slums of New Delhi rely on Astha for physiotherapy, counseling, speech therapy and even basic toilet training. Thanks to Astha, Sonia is now enrolled in a regular school. Astha also helps families cope with the emotional and financial strain of raising kids with special needs. Their goal is to support 25 such families. Donate Here

Khusbhoo pictures
The child of an alcoholic father, Deepak, could not walk properly, speak, or even hold a pencil. KWS rescued this boy and brought him to specialists. Today with the help of physiotherapy and guided education, Deepak can verbalize his thoughts and run on his feet! Like Deepak, Khushboo Welfare Society has given wings to many more children, mentally and/or physically disabled, and empowered them with education, confidence, and independence. Donate Here.

Asha deepa image
Ram's extremely poor parents couldn't afford to send him to blind school and never thought that their son could make any achievements in life. Asha Deepa School came to his rescue, helped him learn Braille and become independent. Now, he has a newfound confidence and aspires to teach visually challenged persons. Help many other visually challenged children become independent and confident individualsDonate Here.

Star clip Engineering manufactures and exports industrial clips to Germany. The remarkable thing is that children with mental disabilities help in the manufacturing of these clips. SSS institute in Nagpur supports 87 children and, takes care of their every detailed need. From daily tasks (brushing teeth) to vocational training (making rakhis), SSS helps these children depending on their varied levels of disabilityDonate here
