Dear Asha Patrons,

On July 15, as we embarked on 'Work an Hour' campaign for the 15th time, we made a promise to 4,300 underprivileged children in India, to keep them in school. When deprived of an opportunity to be in school, in the absence of a minimum wage policy and lack of enforcement of the Child Labor policy, such children shoulder burden, earn less than $1 (~Rs.30) per day, and are abused by society.

At Asha, we believe that we have a responsibility to protect and educate girls; support children with special needs, and bring opportunities to children in urban slums. As our campaign draws to a close in two weeks, we have raised more than $60,000 from 400+ donors. But to reach our target of $150,000, we need your active support.

One hour of your salary in 2012 is all we ask from you. Give them their childhood they rightfully deserve today, so they can contribute positively to society tomorrow. Please support Today!

Work-an-Hour and Change a Life!

"When learning is purposeful, creativity blossoms.
When creativity blossoms, thinking emanates.
When thinking emanates, knowledge is fully lit.
When knowledge is lit, economy flourishes."

Dear Asha Patrons

On August 1st, as we embarked on our 'Work an Hour' campaign for the 16th time, we made a promise to 4,300 underprivileged children in India, to keep them in school. As our campaign draws to a close in less than a month, we have raised more than
$40,000 from 240+ donors. But to reach our target of $145,000, we need your active support.

In the last week's email, we brought to you some testimonials from our project partners in India. Continuing with the same theme this email brings to you some more testimonials. All our project partners thank you for generously supporting their projects. We only have three weeks before this campaign comes to an end.

Below are a few testimonials from our project partners in India:

Asha Purdue Chapter is a major donor for the KHEL Patna Center of Diksha Foundation and Alok Charitable trust. Volunteers from the Asha team are also involved with the center and they are exploring the usage of ICT tools to enhance the quality of education. We have established a computer lab with the help of Asha - access to computer and other ICT tools have broadened the world view of the children. - Diksha KHEL (Patna, Bihar, India)

Asha's support for the construction of Non Formal Education and vocational training centres at Varanasi red light area have been very critical in Guria's fight against human trafficking and forced prostitution. These centres were the backbone in evolving our strategy to end child prostitution, minimize second generation prostitution and prevent trafficking and re-trafficking.
- Ajeet Singh, Founder/Director, Guriya Swyam Sevi Sansthan (Varanasi, U.P., India)

Asha for Education has been funding Chehak Trust since 2002, a time when Sahyog was merely an idea. It has stood by us in our most challenging times, such as when the community was being relocated, and the floods of July 2005. It has always appreciated our choice to build Sahyog organically, rooted in the community's life, even at the cost of scale.
- Neha Madhiwalla, Sahyog Trustee and a Social Researcher

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." -
Nelson Mandela
Dear Asha Patrons

The 'Right to Education' Act is here.  Yet, there are an estimated 50 million child laborers in India, based on a statement from a child rights protection group in August 2013. These children toil everywhere from stone quarries and carpet factories to rice mills. In addition, children are bought and sold into bonded slavery for the sex trade or to work as domestic servants.

You liked our Facebook page.  You helped us increase our fans from 1,200 last year to 12,000+ this year.  Deep down in your hearts you believe in our cause and efforts, and know that a change is possible if each of us did something about illiteracy in India.

Today, our campaign has less than 300 donors. The team at 'Work an Hour' is looking to add 100 donors by the end of this week, to be able to call this campaign a success, as with our previous campaigns.

We really need your help NOW to give our children hope for a better future. This campaign has no meaning without You.

Celebrate this 'Joy of Giving' week with WAH

WAH2013

August 1 - October 15, 2013

Dear Asha Patrons

Over the last couple of months, you have been receiving our emails, sharing information on the Work an Hour campaign.  For 16 years now, we come back to generous donors like you with a hope that you will support us once again, and do this just once a year.  Your donation is utilized in our projects towards infrastructural enhancement, teachers' salaries, midday meals, and childrens' uniforms among others.  We have a reputation for sending more than 98% of donations to our projects.

It is with the same hope that we are sending this email to you in the last leg of our campaign as we haven't yet met our target.  No amount is big or small.  It is the fact that you donate that will mean a lot to us. So, please spare a moment NOW and be a part of our campaign again this year.

To donate, click here.

Experience the joy of changing a life with your donation in the Joy of Giving week.

Thanks,
The Team at Work an Hour

Work an Hour Campaign in its Last Week!

WAH2013

August 1 - October 15, 2013

"There is only one success-to be able to spend your life in your own way"
- Christopher Morley

Dear Asha Patrons

Here's what success looks like to children in our projects -

Sundar was a school dropout at the age of 16. His father abandoned him when he was 8 years old and his mother was a commercial sex worker. Sundar was fortunate to find his home at Pneuma Trust in Madurai, Tamil Nadu - An Asha for Education supported project. He graduated from Grade 10 at the age of 18.

It is only because of your generosity in our Work An Hour (WAH) campaign in 2012 that Sundar was enrolled into a 'Four-Wheeler Driving Training Program' offered by the Industrial Training Institute in Madurai . Today, Sundar works for a travel agency and earns ~$150 per month. Sundar motivated his mother to quit the commercial sex business. She has engaged herself in a respectable profession of tailoring, with assistance from Pneuma Trust. Thank You, donors! This is how You help us change communities when you donate to WAH.

"Work An Hour" is all about a number of small contributions coming together to make a large impact. 4000 children are counting on the success of this year's Work an Hour campaign. We want to help create more stories like Sundar's and we cannot do it without your help. We have a long way to go to meet our goal in this campaign and are hoping you will support us once again this time. We request each of you to please donate an hour of your salary towards our projects in the last leg of our campaign and help us call this campaign a success. One hour of your salary is all it takes.  Campaign ends on October 15th.

Thanks,
The Team at Work an Hour

Today is last day of Work An Hour campaign

WAH2013

August 1 - October 15, 2013

"Love begins by taking care of the closest ones - the ones at home"
Mother Teresa

Dear Asha Patrons,

The 'Work An Hour' campaign is about our children and you.  We had set ourselves a target to seek 800 donors in this year's campaign, as in previous years.  Today is the last day of our campaign....

We are hoping that you will be one of 100 donors in the next 24 hours who will help us move closer to our goal.  When you donate to a project in our WAH campaign, you are essentially supporting a child who would otherwise not have a choice but be out of school.

Here's what a teacher from our project in rural Tamil Nadu has to say: "We teachers take care of children from morning to evening. Parents are not aware of what is going on with their children as they have to attend to farming or labor work. Life is hard for them."

Donating to this campaign not only means you have taken action to educate a poor child in India, but you also appreciate all the hard work put in by our volunteers in selecting these highly impactful projects.  So, please open your generous hearts on the last day of our campaign.

Warm Regards,
