Mike Florio speculating about players injuries

He thrives on creating increasing speculation and hype about players injuries and writing conflicting information about NFL player injuries. Here is a small snapshot of proof: -

"Education is the fundamental method of social progress and reform..... Through education, society can formulate its own purposes, can organize its own means and resources, and thus shape itself with definiteness and economy in the direction in which it wishes to move."
-- John Dewey, an eminent social and education reformer of the 20th century.

Dear Asha Patrons

Over the last couple of months, we have sent you weekly emails to showcase our projects and spread the word. You have helped us, in return, by contributing to the causes. We wanted to bring forth, this week, the testimonials from our Project Partners, who are thankful for the support they receive from Asha for Education. All their praise goes to you for enabling us to support the Projects through your generous donations.

Below are a few testimonials from our Project Partners:

"It is both heartening and motivating to see just how much representatives from Asha know about our work. They truly understand what we do and how we achieve it. Their funding of the design of audio content to supplement home-learning for under-privileged young adults learning English has been a great success. Our learners love that they can listen to and practice at home what they learned in class that day - something which they had not previously been able to do"
- Ian McBride, Director Communications, Etasha Society (New Delhi)

"Asha for Education has supported progressively more villages every year since 2011. Their support and commitment to preschool education in rural India has been very encouraging. They ask tough questions which help us think through some of our issues and it's been a fulfilling partnership."

- Lily Paul, Coordinator, HLC (Bangalore)

"Asha has been the strength behind Adhaardhila school since we started our school to fight against child marriage and targeting girls. Since 2007 we have worked in close partnership which till data Asha is the sole funder of his school."

 -
Suman Choudhary,  Project Director, Pratirodh Sansthan (Rajasthan)

Celebrate Teacher's Day! Take a minute. Make a gesture..

WAH2013

August 1 - October 15, 2013

Dear Asha Patrons,

In April 2012, the Supreme Court of India upheld a government decision to implement the Right to Education (RTE) Act in all schools except unaided minority institutions. One of the key features of this ambitious plan is to maintain a healthy pupil-teacher ratio (PTR) in schools. For every 30 students, there should be at least one teacher. Almost 57.2 per cent of India's schools have a poor PTR. The situation is going to get worse with the RTE seeking to ensure education for all. It is expected to reach out to an estimated 8.1 million out-of-school children in the 6-14 age group. The shortage will be more acute as new government schools come up to accommodate the student surge.
On the occasion of Indian Teacher's Day today, we share with you some Work-An-Hour projects that focus on improving the quality of teacher training.
Shikshamitra: Shikshamitra based in Kolkata, West Bengal offers teacher-training on languages, math, environmental education, arts and crafts etc. During the last few years the project has trained teachers from various schools, including teachers from projects supported by Asha for Education. The WAH Team wishes to rise up to $15,000 for this Project that would go towards supporting the training of 50 Teachers.
Hippocampus Learning Center: Hippocampus was established in 2004 with the vision to "inspire children to want to read more". The Learning Center was established in June 2010 with 7 pilot projects to promote reading, Hippocampus has expanded to promoting learning, through the establishment of Education centers in villages. In doing so, the organization empowers women to teach at these centers and provides women with livelihoods, self-confidence and pride.
Diksha KHEL Project: The Diksha Foundation was set up by a group of trained professionals who felt the urgent need to provide for the underprivileged section of the society. Diksha focuses on the theme of education and innovates by adding technology to its class rooms. KHEL is pioneering concept that makes learning creative and fun by adding modern technologies like Computers, Tablets to existing curriculum.

Project Prerna: "Project Prerna" is ETASHA's vocational and employability skills training program serving youth from impoverished colonies in New Delhi, India. It is conducted at ETASHA's own flagship Career Development Center (CDC) at Madanpur Khadar in New Delhi. The program teaches relevant employability skills and training to the youth to ultimately get them sustainable and respectable employment in the private sector.
"Those who educate children well are more to be honored than they who produce them; for these only gave them life, those art of living well." - Aristotle

Dear Asha patrons,

You may have heard about Asha for Education, you may have donated to the cause, or volunteered with a chapter in the past, you may have even run the half marathon (if you were brave!), but how well do you know you the 2013 Work an Hour projects that we're raising funds for?

Here are some interesting facts about 3 projects we are supporting to pique your interest :

Did you know that Swanirvar-Shikshamitra, in Kolkata, goes against the tide of "one-size-fits-all" curriculum and instead devices a curriculum that makes learning fun? Read more here, and help them raise the funds they need.

What happens to mentally and physically challenged children in India? With few options, its a wonder that organizations like Prayas exist. Prayas works to provide inclusive education to differently abled children. Donate generously and help them touch even more lives.

Have you ever despaired about child labor in India? Bal Ashram Trust through the Bachpan Bachao Andolan in Rajasthan is trying to provide education and a different life to the Banjara community - an itinerant community- whose children would otherwise remain deprived of education. Lend them your support and help plant a passion for education.

These are just a few of the 12 amazing projects that support education in India.

And finally, you are all perhaps aware that your dollar contributions will go farther these days. Increase your impact by using company matching and donate generously to these worthy causes.

On India's Independence Day : Donate for their Right!

August 1 - October 15, 2013

 Dear Asha Patrons,

"We must not for a moment forget, it is a birthright of every individual to receive at least the basic education without which he cannot fully discharge his duties as a citizen"
 - Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, India's first Minister of Education.

Sixty six years ago, India gained independence and dreamed of a better future for all her children. Today, we see that dream has come true for many. Among those who were fortunate, many have pledged to give back. Asha for Education was born out of a similar desire. And today we ask for your support in our pledge to help the less fortunate ones, the disadvantaged and the vulnerable.

Every year, we raise over $100k to fund projects in India though our Work an Hour campaign. For the past 15 years, we have been reaching closer to our targets not because of one large, wealthy donor. Rather, it is because of thousands of people, just like you, who believe that their contribution makes a difference. And what a monumental difference it makes! Just ask any of the projects, or the children supported by the projects.

Similar to previous years, our projects are in need of funds - to grow, to sustain, to change or to cope with the increasing costs in India. The money will help them hire and train new teachers, buy computers and new benches for their students. It will help them to keep the students in schools and thereby continue their march to make India an equitable place for everyone and not just for a select few.

As you think about all we have achieved today, as a people and as a nation, spare a thought for those who are not as fortunate.

Your contribution will help close the gap.

One way to maximize your impact is to avail of company matching. Find out today if your company will supplement your donation.

Spare a thought ... Spend a minute ... Donate an hour... today!

Warm Regards
Asha For Education

Asha for Education Presents Work-An-Hour 2013

WAH2013
August 1 - October 15, 2013

Dear Asha patrons,

This year the WAH campaign is committed to supporting 12 projects by raising $145k which will impact close to 4000 children. So far, we have raised $7.5k, a good start but we have a long way to go!
If you've previously volunteered with Asha, you already know the far reaching impact of the funds we raise. This week we are showcasing two of the key projects that will directly benefit from your funds - Pratirodh Sansthan and Guria Swayam Sevi Santhan.
Your donations towards these projects will fund salaries and build classrooms- mundane tasks but tasks that will change the lives of the children involved.
Pratirodh Sansthan (Chittorgarh, Rajasthan) works with girls from tribal backgrounds between the ages of 8-13 most of whom are married and have never been to school. The project  provides helps these young girls by creating self-help groups, educating them about their rights and acting as a resource when their rights are violated. Read more about it here.
Guria Swayam Sevi Santhan (Shivdaspur, Uttar Pradesh) aims to impart vocational training and education to children at risk in Varanasi's red light district. In its aim to end trafficking and forced prostitution of children, Guria (or Gudiya), provides a halfway house that helps in the rehabilitation and assimilation of children. Find out how its changing its community here.
When you donate, you will be taking a strong stand against the neglect of young girls and children who are left to fend for themselves before adulthood. Contribute today and make a difference.
You can also help by:
Spreading the word - tell your friends on social media
Company matching - turbo charge your impact

Asha's WAH '13 starts now! - $145k Target & 12 Projects, 46 Learning Centers, 3.9k Children impacted

WAH2013

August 1 - September 30, 2013
Dear Asha Patrons,

Welcome to another year of Asha for Education's Work an Hour initiative! Similar to previous years, this is Asha's annual effort to kick start fundraising efforts to support hand-picked projects that are based in India. This year, we are supporting 12 projects and are committed to raising $145,338 which in turn will benefit over 46 Learning Centers and 3,900 children.

So how did we all get here? This has been a labor of love with chapter stewards and volunteers from across the country vying to get their projects the additional funding that they so desperately need. The process starts early in the year with chapters being asked to submit their proposals for funding. Funding requests are then analyzed by a larger group of WAH team members and projects are selected based on the project proposal, utilization plans for the funds and the project's future potential.

What do the funds mean to the projects? The money raised via WAH means that selected projects can continue funding enhancements and making the strides they are, for yet another year. For some projects, it means being able to pay the salaries of teachers, for others, it means having funds to continue fighting something as basic as human trafficking and forced prostitution. Your generous donation will be paying for India's future by making her present more equitable. There are many stories, and many worthwhile causes that can continue with your support.

And, this is where you come in. Donating to Asha, towards a particular project or to the campaign as a whole will help some amazing initiatives.

Please visit our website at http://workanhour.ashanet.org/ and read about the different projects and donate generously. Remember, if your company honors company-matching, we strongly urge you to take advantage of the scheme and increase your impact.

Finally, a word from one of our project presidents ...
"Without Asha's support 200 disadvantaged young Indians would be without vocational training and placement today. This is cause enough for celebration, but what really feels good is the collaborative nature of their support for us. We feel like genuine partners, and we look forward to Asha team's visits to our centers; their interaction with us and our trainees reflects their genuine concern and enthusiasm for skill development and employ-ability.

- Dr Meenakshi Nayar, President, Etasha Society
